We started the Katmandu Journal with a simple mission: to stop surviving Nepal’s broken media industry and start reshaping it. This country deserves journalism that explains issues clearly and challenges lazy thinking, as well as helps people see Nepal as it truly is. Above all, it deserves a newsroom that cannot be pushed around.

We do not answer to politicians, companies or hidden donors. Real independence takes time, travel, research and editors who will not hesitate to kill a story if the facts do not hold up. When you support us, you help keep that independence alive.

Nepal’s media is squeezed from all sides: politics on one end, business interests on the other, and shrinking revenues everywhere. We are trying to build something different: slower, more careful journalism that resists pressure and prioritises clarity over noise.

Much of this work does not pay for itself, but it matters. Good investigations require patience. Fair reporting takes time. And staying independent means saying “no” far more often than “yes”. Your contribution makes that possible.
